Our Studio
bouffard⊹bowick is a design studio engaged in the creation of timeless residential and commercial projects. Working from an 1820’s saltwater farm on the coast of Maine, we currently have projects on the boards in Maine and the Carolinas. Our work includes contemporary new structures, mid-century additions, and sympathetic historic renovations - finding beauty in simplicity.
We approach each project holistically, focusing on context, scale, and functionality, engaging our clients in a collaborative process to create unique design solutions.
Our Story
We (david⊹bill) met in NYC and after a brief stint in London, moved to Charleston, SC where we opened a bakery - Sugar Bakeshop. Our little shop - and our historic house next door - were our first projects as a design team. In designing, developing and branding our ground up business, we drew upon our varied work experience.
After 12 years as shop owners, we sold our house and shop (Sugar remains active to this day) and moved to Sedgwick, Maine on the Blue Hill Peninsula. Inspired by the natural beauty of the area and coastal vernacular architecture, we designed and constructed 3 cabins tucked into the woods along the tidal shores of the Benjamin River Harbor. Creating these cabins sparked a desire to return to our design roots.
